Common Software Installation Problems

Unable to locate bicndis.sys file during adapter installation

When the Satellite Receiver Adapter is first installed, Windows prompts you to install the drivers for the adapter.  During the driver installation, Windows will indicate that the bicndis.sys file is not present on the Windows CD-ROM.  Windows may prompt you to insert the Windows CD-ROM to find this file, but the bicndis.sys file is actually on the DirecPC CD-ROM.  At this point in the driver installation, insert the DirecPC CD-ROM.   Please see the Satellite Receiver Adapter Driver Installation instructions for more details.

Setup program can not detect adapter

The setup program will not complete if the Satellite Receiver Adapter driver installation is not complete.   If the driver is not correctly installed, the setup program can not detect which type of adapter you have.  If you are running Windows NT 4.0, it may be helpful to manually install the Satellite Receiver Adapter driver. Please see the Satellite Receiver Adapter Driver Installation instructions for more details.

Setup program indicates that all applications should be shut down before running Setup

This message may be displayed if you are upgrading from DirecPC 2.0.  If this message is displayed, please shut down all running Windows applications before starting the setup program.  It is also advisable to temporarily shut down any anti-virus software that may be running before starting the setup program.
