Troubleshooting
Webcast
How
do I use Webcast?
To
access Webcast features you must launch the DirecPC Electronic
Program Guide (EPG). The EPG is launched by double
clicking on the DirecPC icon on your Windows desktop (or the
DirecPC Programs folder). The EPG is displayed in your
default web browser, which can be changed on the Browser
tab on the Webast Property page. The EPG provides the
ability to subscribe and view Webcast channels that are of
interest to you. The EPG also provides an integrated
interface to all DirecPC services including Turbo Internet and
Turbo Newscast. Launch the EPG and learn how to get the
most from your DirecPC system!
I
subscribed to Webcast channels but I'm not receiving Webcast
content
During
the Auto Commissioning process you should choose a service plan
that includes the Turbo Webcast service. If you have
selected a service plan that includes Turbo Webcast and you have
selected some Webcast channels in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG),
then you should be receiving Webcast content. One
possible cause for not receiving Webcast content is that you may
not have the required encryption keys. To verify if you
have the required encryption keys, open the pkgexplr.exe
file in the DirecPC\Bin directory (The path to this file is
typically c:\program files\direcpc\bin\pkgexplr.exe). The
Package Explorer (pkgexplr.exe) application shows the packages you
are able to receive. One field in the Package Explorer
windows is 'Topic'; if you see entries that list Webcast as the
topic, then you have the required encryption keys for Webcast. If
you do not see any Webcast entries, please contact the Customer
Care Center for further assistance. If you have the
required encryption keys and you are still not receiving Webcast
content, verify in the EPG that you have subscribed to at least
one Webcast channel. If you are still having problems
please contact the Customer Care Center for further assistance.
How
do I configure Webcast so that data is always received from the
Internet instead of the Webcast cache?
There
may be times when you want to access data directly from the
Internet instead of retrieving the data from the Webcast cache. There
are two ways to accomplish this:
- Bypass
cache lookups - On the General
tab on the Webcast Property page, you can select the Bypass
all cache lookups option under Cache Settings. In
this mode, the Webcast proxy will not look in its cache for
any URL requested.
- Do
not load the Webcast proxy server on Windows startup - On
the Browser
tab on the Webcast Property page, you can select to not load
the Webcast proxy server when Windows starts up. When
this option is selected your web browsers are un-proxied and
the Webcast proxy server is configured to not load on Windows
startup. Any requested URL data will be directly
accessed from the Internet and will not go through the Webcast
proxy server. Please note that if the Webcast proxy
server is not loaded, you will be unable to access cached
Webcast content.
